Want to retire in Ecuador... What to expect

by Roger and Jeannine
(Kingsland, Georgia US)

My Husband and I are retiring this year and want to move to Ecuador. We are not wanting to live in a city but close to one.

We want the quiet life and relaxing life we deserve. We would like a place in the mountains.

Any advise on what Realator to use and also an Attorney that we can talk with now to start our process would be great.

Having someone to talk with about our concerns would be great. We want to know that we are not alone in this process nor do we want to make mistake.

So if any of you Advance Expat can smooth the way for us and let us in on the do's and don't we would greatly appreciate it.

Can't wait to make new friends in our new place we want to call home...

We really appreciate you giving us this information. This helps but you know women we have more questions........

If you have email here is mine jkemp31548@hotmail.com I really would love to ask more if you have the time to answer.

We can't wait to be relaxing and just enjoying a slower pace of life...

Did you bring a container over with you? If so what are the rules about bringing over personal item that you use all the time. Furnture....

Is there a good airline to use for coming over . I am seeing about the same rate on all of them.

I could go on and on so I will stop for now. Again any help in this would be very much appreciated..

Hope to see you soon!!!!!

Dear Steve and Elaine,

Thank you so much for the input. We've been ping for a couple of years now and really want to make this happen. Any and all input is welcomed from those of you who have been living there for more than I have and that is alot. e really want to try and make a trip down to look things over before we make the move but we will see what if any knid of visit we can mke before we move there. It was nice of you to comment on our page and as I said we welcome all input. I was already aware of electronic items and we are working on cutting down on household items we plan on bringing but electronics is an area I seem to hear more and more about, if you have it bring it and if you don't get it before you leave the states. I hope one day we are able to meet and maybe enjoy a glass of wine together and breath in the freedom and knowing we left the rat race behind us which is our plan. Thanks again and hopefully we cna meet one day>

All the Best,

Roger and Jeannine

Retiring in Ecuador
by: Steve

My wife and I live in the Valle Los Chillos, a quiet valley about 45 minutes from Quito. There are small groups of Brits and Americans living nearby who sometimes meet in the local mall, which rivals any mall in America. You probably don't need an attorney (we never used one). Most of what you need to know you can find out just by asking someone who has lived here for awhile. We have been here for 18 months, and have friends who been here for many years. Rents are low by American standards, food is comparatively high. Anything electronic is crazy high because all of it has to be imported, so if you have anything like that, you should bring as much with you as possible. I'm not able to check this page as often as I would like, but Elaine and I are more than willing to help in any way we can.
