Hi:
Looking to move to Ecuador and just feel as in life that it would be great to share the whole trip ,the ups ,downs and whatever's with a n adventurous person. I'm a spontaneous person and think that it could be a hoot just discovering all the things waiting for us to enjoy, I have a very extensive background in travel and have lived in many a distant place Thailand ,Spain Gibraltar among others . I have sailed across the Atlantic ocean more then once and have lived on a 95 ft. sail boat in a lot of different ports. Its been a good life and am looking for it to continue,if you are at all interested just drop me a line and see where it goes tjboyle1224@gmail.com Have a great day

Coming down soon! Yeah!
by: Karen

Hi all, so glad to find this connection. I am currently in Vancouver, B.C., but am an American from the midwest (and a long time in Florida).

I would love to here more about Cotacachi and Cuenta. Will be down for 3 weeks in August (2012) and looking to find the area I will buy in to relocate after retirement in a couple years.

I am a professional (Linguist and ESL Business specialist) and hope to find a network of friends there where I fit in. I am a widow, 57 and love, love all my gal pal network that stretches from Barcelona to Vancouver. I am artistic, wish to write more, and must have music in my life! If I could not surround myself with good friends, I would not be happy. I love hanging out, cooking, drinking wine and otherwise being social.

So, more or less , me in a nutshell, so if you have any more contacts or suggestions for me to see or do in August, please feel free to write --put these letters all together and you got it--- k w i l s o n 9 9 9 9 @ g m a i l . c o m

Talk soon, I hope,
Karen

Hi Judy,

Thanks for submitting your inquiry. If you are visiting Cuenca there are some wonderful expats that you can connect with. As I mentioned to Lori below you may wish to contact Ashley and Michel who are expats living in Cuenca. They now do the "Getting to Know Cuenca Tour" which I highly recommend for any expat thinking of relocating. This is purely to help you go to places that the usual touristy tours do not take you. You know places like where it is best to live or the medical facilities, best markets, shopping, hair dresser and more. http://www.retire-in-ecuador.com/gettting_to_know_Cuenca.html

If you are going to Cotacachi take a look at Gary Kesinger's page which has just been published. Also make sure you sign up to the newsletter as Gary K will be writing more for RIE this week. Gary and his wife moved to Cotacachi a few years ago and are a young couple loving it. http://www.retire-in-ecuador.com/cotacachi.html

Wishing you and your daughter the very best in your travels.

Interested in possibly moving to Ecuador
by: Lori

I'm a 50 year old widow that has started looking at places to retire in a few years and have been looking closely at Ecuador.

I would like to find out more information and do a few trips to Cotacachi & Cuenca. How safe is it for a female to travel be themself in this area?

23 May 2012

Hi Lori,

I travelled through Ecuador many times on my own and never had a problem. I think as long as you stay "aware" of your surroundings that you will be fine. People are very helpful and kind. There are now many single females travelling and living in Ecuador. Especially in Cuenca and Cotacachi. I would suggest that if you do go to Cuenca to contact Ashley who now does the Getting to Know Cuenca Tour http://www.retire-in-ecuador.com/gettting_to_know_Cuenca.html
which I designed several years ago especially for the expats. It is a tour that shows you places where you may wish to live or shop and the medical facilities etc. This is not a touristy tour as this can be done by the experts and locals. When I was taking the tours I took many single females who were thinking of relocating.

If you are going to Quito I would suggest you contact Sarah for a tour or further help in relocating. http://www.retire-in-ecuador.com/Sarah-Ecuador-Crash-Course.html

Wishing you the very best in your travels.

by: Cynthia

I moved to Cotacachi about 2 months ago and I absolutely love it. I know you are both looking at Cuenca but if you have any interest in checking into Cotacachi, I'd love to share.

I have a blog at where you can see much of the everyday life of my new home. My email address is at the top of the blog if you'd like to contact me directly.

Cuenca Tennis Club
by: RIE

Jim,

There is a country club in Cuenca where they play tennis and golf. Every year they also have an international tennis tournament with people arriving from all over the world. It is quite expensive to join with a $6,000 membership the last time we checked. I am sure there must be other facilities to in and around Cuenca where you can play tennis.
