Getting to know Cuenca Tour

Custom Search

I’m happy you have chosen to visit us in Cuenca. Some of you are relocating here and some of you are thinking about it. While here, come and enjoy our  Getting To Know Cuenca Tour.

This tour is designed to show you a little of what it is like to live here and to find out where the best neighborhoods are, and where to do your grocery and other shopping, popular restaurants, where the cinema’s are, where the doctors, dentists and hospitals are, where to pay bills, where the banks are, etc. etc.

Where you begin looking for short or long-term accommodation in your new city of choice can be quite daunting? And what about knowing where the best shopping, banks, doctors, dentists and other important points of interest are?

That is why I have decided to offer this informational and fabulous 3 hour tour  I am calling this excursion  Getting To Know Cuenca Tour.  You will be taken out in a comfortable car with a bi-lingual driver who has done this tour many times with me.  . We will collect you from your hotel and show you in and around the outskirts of Cuenca. The cost is $75 for 1 or a couple.

We won’t actually be showing you any specific houses during the tour, but it does give you a chance to see some different neighborhoods and various shopping and business hotspots.

My tour is designed to help you get yourself acquainted with the city and hopefully it will save you wasting time when/if you go out searching for your next home or local services and supplies.

When we first arrived in Cuenca, we felt quite lost. It was not until we acquired our own means of transport (a motor cycle) that we discovered a lot of what we needed to know. Hopefully I can save you a lot of time, and maybe you will gain a much greater appreciation of what Cuenca has to offer for normal daily living.

It will also give you the time to ask the many questions about living in Cuenca that most people have.  So make sure you have a pen and paper ready.  Below are a couple of testimonials.

Shopping With Dixie!

by Judy

This past Christmas holiday, my husband and I decided to check Cuenca out for our future retirement. I had been in constant communication with Dixie over the year, gathering tidbits of information on everyday life in Cuenca. We decided to use our Christmas break from school to check everything out. I had set up a lunch for Dixie, John, Bill, and I to meet so we could get to know each other. Since it was the holidays, we knew we would not be able to view any properties, but we did want to see the shopping facilities for everyday needs.

Dixie met us at our hotel and spent the day showing us the SuperMax and the mall. Now, remember, this was her vacation time she was using! I usually do not enjoy going to a grocery store, but being able to check out the various items and prices was actually fun. We were mentally comparing prices to those in Houston. Dixie was quick to point out various products that she knew our stores usually did not carry or any others she thought might be of interest to us. I could just hear voices in Houston asking strange questions, such as “Do they sell Dr. Pepper down there?” To most people, Ecuador is another small planet. All of the employees in the store were smiling and very helpful. It was a nice change from the reception in Houston. We were satisfied that grocery shopping in Cuenca would not be a problem for us in the future. Even though our Spanish is not up to par, people still seemed willing to help us.

After we left the SuperMaxi, we strolled through the mall. Bill had left his jacket at a hotel in Quito, so Dixie was helping us find another one to make it through the rest of our trip. Shopping with Dixie in Cuenca was just like being in the Galleria with our friends in Houston. It really gave us a good idea of what appliances and clothes cost in Ecuador. This is the information you need to gather in person, not on the internet. Thanks to Dixie, we left Cuenca feeling quite comfortable about shopping and living there! Thanks, Dixie! Judy and Bill"

"We have safely arrived back in Asheville, with wonderful memories of our Ecuadorian stay. Our day with you was very informative and provided a great overview of Cuenca. Again, thanks for spending time with us and being a great source of information.
Elaine - March 2010"

Dixie Davie, an Australian from Perth, and her husband have been in Cuenca for two years now - and loving every minute of it.  Her site is Retire - in - Ecuador.

The Gringo and company had an opportunity to join her on her tour this past week - it was a very well spent $75.  We learned a lot - both the positive and the negative about moving to Cuenca.  It was mostly positive.  The Ecuador Gringo / April 2010
