Getting to know Cuenca Tour

Spices found in the markets
I’m
happy you are choosing to visit
us in Cuenca. Some of you are relocating, some are doing an orientation
tour
and some of you are just vacationing and interested in our beautiful
city. Why
not take a
tour that is
different from the rest.
I
designed this tour with the expat in
mind to show you a little of what it is like to live here and to find
out where
the best neighborhoods are, and where to do your grocery and other
shopping. Popular
restaurants, where
the
cinema’s are, where the doctors, dentists and hospitals are,
where to pay
bills, where the banks, pharmacies, markets are and more.
Where
you begin looking for short or
long-term accommodation in your new city of choice can be quite
daunting? We
won’t actually be showing you any specific houses during the
tour, but we will
show you some of the best areas for an expat to live.
The
tour is designed to help you get
yourself acquainted with the city and hopefully it will save you
wasting time
when you go out searching for your next home or local services and
supplies.
When
we first arrived in Cuenca, we
felt quite lost. It was not until we acquired our own means of
transport (a
motor cycle) that we discovered a lot of what we needed to know.
Hopefully we
can save you a lot of time, and maybe you will gain a much greater
appreciation
of what Cuenca has to offer for normal daily living.
The tour has become very
popular with new folks traveling to Cuenca. I now introduce
to you Karen and Juan who have taken over these tours for me.
Together they will take you to the places I have shown many
new folks arriving into town and no doubt Karen will also ad her own
findings. Karen and I spent many a happy afternoon shopping
in and around Cuenca and found a few places off the beaten
track that can be shared with you on this tour.
You will be pick you up
from your Hotel and taken on a 3 hour tour. The
price is $75 for a single or couple.
So
what are you waiting for? Take
the “Getting
to Know Cuenca Tour”
and see it from a different angle. One
of the best tours around.

Karen
It
will also give you the time to ask the many questions about living in
Cuenca that most people have. So make sure you have a pen and
paper ready. To make a booking please fill and send the form

Shopping
With Dixie!
by
Judy
This
past Christmas holiday, my
husband and I decided to check Cuenca out for our future retirement. I
had been
in constant communication with Dixie over the year, gathering tidbits
of information
on everyday life in Cuenca. We decided to use our Christmas break from
school
to check everything out. I had set up a lunch for Dixie, John, Bill,
and I to
meet so we could get to know each other. Since it was the holidays, we
knew we
would not be able to view any properties, but we did want to see the
shopping
facilities for everyday needs.
Dixie
met us at our hotel and spent
the day showing us the
SuperMax and the mall. Now, remember, this was her vacation time she
was using!
I usually do not enjoy going to a grocery store, but being able to
check out
the various items and prices was actually fun. We were mentally
comparing
prices to those in Houston. Dixie was quick to point out various
products that
she knew our stores usually did not carry or any others she thought
might be of
interest to us. I could just hear voices in Houston asking strange
questions,
such as “Do they sell Dr. Pepper down there?” To
most people, Ecuador is
another small planet. All of the employees in the store were smiling
and very
helpful. It was a nice change from the reception in Houston. We were
satisfied
that grocery shopping in Cuenca would not be a problem for us in the
future.
Even though our Spanish is not up to par, people still seemed willing
to help
us.
After
we left the SuperMaxi, we strolled through the mall.
Bill had left his jacket at a hotel in Quito, so Dixie was helping us
find
another one to make it through the rest of our trip. Shopping with
Dixie in
Cuenca was just like being in the Galleria with our friends in Houston.
It
really gave us a good idea of what appliances and clothes cost in
Ecuador. This
is the information you need to gather in person, not on the internet.
Thanks to
Dixie, we left Cuenca feeling quite comfortable about shopping and
living there!
Thanks, Dixie! Judy and Bill"
"We
have safely arrived back in
Asheville, with wonderful memories of our Ecuadorian stay.
Our day with
you was very informative and provided a great overview of
Cuenca. Again,
thanks for spending time with us and being a great source of
information.
