Quito
by: Anonymous

I have been in Quito for 2 months waiting for my immigration to be approved. I was surprised at the cost. Housing is cheaper than the USA. I have a three level executive type house with 3 BR and 3 BA. I pay $500 a month. Medical services are much cheaper. I was recently in the emergency room for 10 hours and had 3 doctors working on me. My bill was $94. If I had stayed overnight, it would have cost $160 more for each night. However, Quito is the Capitol city and more expensive than other cities such as Cuanca. Food cost more than it does in the USA no matter what internet sites tell you. I can only speak for Quito but I have trouble living on $3000/month in Quito. I look forward to the day when I can leave this city in search of a lower cost of living here. Bring as many warm clothes as possible. There is no heat in 99% of the houses in Ecuador and it does get down to the 50's at night.

by: Mark

Gary...it seems too good to be true on your amounts of rent being a four bedroom etc. Would love to move there with my wife but my s.s is just a little over $1,000 mo. My wife is 20 years younger than me and is a supervisor for a sewing company. Is there any work there that can help us out? email me back at markaleblanc@hotmail.com Also that $1,00 m0. is taxable

Retire in Ecuador
by: Gary

I lived in the Ocean View area of Anchorage. I am now living in Chordeleg, Ecuador which is about 1 hr. from Cuenca by bus. The bus cost from Cuenca to Chordeleg is only .75 cents. I have a new Spanish style home with 3000 sq. ft. that has 4 bedrooms & 3 baths, at the cost of $300 per month. As you can see Rent is much cheaper if you get away from the city. Elec. $ 10.per month, gas $ 7.50 per month,[water, phone, internet, and tv cable is less than $50 per month. This is a very nice tourist town of 6000 population. My wife and I live very well on half of our S.S.

You need to decide if you will relocate your possessions or not. We did, and used the relocation expert mentioned in the link on the left with great success! Hope to see you in Cuenca!

Should be no problem
by: Bill

The key will be finding a place to live. I moved to Cuenca Feb 1 2013. I pay $375 a month for a furnished 2 bed room 2 bath room apartment. My electric runs around $7-$10 a month. Gas around $2, my condo fee is the most expensive at $36 a month...figure $300 a month for food and another $100 for other stuff and I manage to survive on approximately less than $1000 a nonth
