Hosteria Uzhupud
Uzhupud
means “Hot Chili Pepper Valley”. I visited Hosteria
Uzhupud last week on a beautiful sunny Ecuadorian morning. Uzhupud is
situated in Paute about a 40 minute drive out of Cuenca.

My
first visit to Uzhupud was way back in February of 2008. My next visit
was on a tour I did quite recently to Chordeleg. Now that I have lived
in Cuenca for quite awhile I understand how much I enjoyed going out to
Uzhupud for the 3rd time.
So
why the name Hot Chili Pepper Valley. The name combines two native
languages. Uzhu which in Quichua means hot chili pepper , and Pud which
in Cañar means plain or flat.

“Hostería
Uzhupud” is a delightful place to come and visit and stay a
night or two. The “Hacienda” has a wonderful
history and dates back over 100 years. The current owners of the
“Hacienda” are the descendants of Don Cornelio
Vintimilla Muñoz and his wife Doña Esther
Muñoz Dávila and their grandchildren.
The
“Hostería” sits on the land where the
old “Hacienda” used to be surrounded by larger
family homes which the Muñoz and Vintimilla family lived.
The
family was very productive and during a 20 year period they produced
some
renowned worldwide products. Some of these you may have seen on the
shelf at
Super Maxi, like Los Andes Ketchup amongst some products.
Eulalia
Vintimilla de Crespo, one of the family Matriarchs
also produced a recipe
book named is "El Sabor de los Recuerdos". Quite famous in Ecuador.
The grounds are extensive and very well
kept. You will enjoy walking
around and seeing all the wonderful healthy plants and trees.
Enjoy
delicious fresh food in the restaurant or eat alfresco. All food is
prepared with fresh vegetables grown on the property.

Vegetable garden
The weather in Paute is generally a few degrees warmer than Cuenca.
Take some time out, book a night or two, relax by the pool and enjoy a
sauna or Turkish bath. In the near future you will also be able to
enjoy the facilities of a Spa.
Laze by the pool
For
those of you that live here you may want to get a group together and
head to Uzhupud midweek and enjoy a special midweek package. If you
have a group of 12 or more you will receive a special discount.
Why not take a break from the city and gather your friends and go and
enjoy the beauty of Uzhupud. Maybe you have a special event happening
that you wish to share with friends. Room rates are very affordable.
Lots of great events can be held here. Maybe you would enjoy a jam
session, or a card day, book club event or even invite special speakers
to come and speak to your group. Whatever you need it can be catered
for here in Uzhupud.
The rooms are extremely
comfortable, clean and affordable. Approximate price per night varies
depending on whether you are looking for a single (from $39) or a
double (from $53). Prices are also reduced should you have a party of
12 persons or more.
Fernando
the Manager of Uzhupud and I discussed how they will soon be bringing
out special "mid-week" packages. For example one will be a "Pamper
Package". Come and enjoy being totally pampered. Facials, massage, use
of Turkish bath and sauna, laze by the pool. I suppose the
men could
enjoy this too. Or they can get together for a game of cards or just
sit by the pool. I mention the men as John said "Why just for women?
Men like to be pampered too."
Another could be a "Wine and cheese tasting event". Hey maybe you have
your own ideas of getting a group together. For more inquiries just

The resort also hosts a
separate Convention Centre, Church and even its own Disco which is a
separate building away from guest rooms and you can use it to dance the
night away. It is pretty awesome.

Chapel above features a very very old pulpit which was taken from an
old church in Cuenca.
Love

This would be a great place if our daughters were getting married and
decided to come here to Ecuador for the event. We could hire the whole
place for a few days and everyone could come and have the best time. I
know it is wishful thinking as our kids are in Australia, but what a
great dream. Maybe they can come for a large family reunion. Ok that's
what I will keep in my mind.
This is
actually a
little
village within Uzhupud which used to house different artisans. I still
think it is very quaint.

Uzhupud
is also an ideal place for those that are traveling here for medical
reasons. If you should be having any surgery or extensive dental work
here you may like to consider taking the opportunity to be taken out to
Uzhupud to rest up for a few days in peace and beautiful surroundings.

visit to Uzhupud. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
