Quito - Referred by some as "The Soul of the World"

We talk so much about Cuenca which has become a very popular relocation base for many expats. Today we focus on Quito which is a much larger city with a population of 2,570.200. Quito is what some call the soul of the world.
For many who travel into Ecuador, Quito is your first point of entry. Now with the recent opening of the new Mariscal Sucre International airport, Quito is experiencing many more international travelers. Of course some of you may decide to fly into Guayaquil, which is the only other international airport in Ecuador.
The new Mariscal Sucre International Airport was opened on the 19th of February, 2013. It is located about 18 kilometres . east of Quito, Ecuador in the Oyamburo plain which is near the town of Tababela.

But let’s not get side tracked and get back to Quito. Just recently Quito was nominated to receive the prestigious “World Travel Award” in the category of leading “South American Destinations”. It is reported that this nomination confirms the importance of Quito in the world travel industry.
Quito is in the canter of the world. Latitude 0'. It was founded in 1534 by Spain over Incan and pre-Incan cities. San Francisco de Quito or Quito as we know it is the capital city of Ecuador. The elevation of the Quito is 2,800 meters (9,200ft). It is the second-highest administrative capital city in the world (after La Paz, Bolivia).
