Yes crime does exist in Ecuador. Unfortunately some do involve tourists/expats. But this is no more than what goes on in your own country. The majority of expats living in Ecuador feel they are living in a safe environment.

Below is a story about Australian Fiona Wilde and British Katy Cox, tourists who were kidnapped for 36 hours from the Amazon jungle.

Tourists Kidnapped in Ecuador

Fiona Wilde an Australian tourist was on a guided tour up the Amazon when she and British tourist Katy Cox were kidnapped and kept hostage for 36 hours. Fiona returns to Ecuador after 8 months to testify against one of the kidnappers. Read and see the video interview. CLICK HERE
