Residency Visas for Ecuador

I
receive many emails asking about
obtaining residency in Ecuador. We are now very proud to be
Ecuadorian
residents and are very thankful for having had wonderful Attorney
representing
us. Above is a photo of Dixie with Gabriela Espinosa our Attorney in Quito. When entering Ecuador you will receive a 90 day tourist
visa than
you can extend to 180 days, but you must leave the country to get a
renewal.
We
did this by traveling to Peru and
back. You can read about this journey if you subscribe
to our Newsletters and go to the back issues.
If
you want to stay 180 days without
leaving the country you will need to go to the Ecuadorian consulate in
your
country and apply for a 12-IX Visa. Please don't take my word
as gospel
as Visa requirements change quite regularly and therefore it may be in
your
best interest to speak with someone like our Attorney in Quito as she
has the
up to date information.
If
you are looking at becoming a
permanent resident there are several steps to follow and as it seems
that each
residency case is different we recommend that you seek your own advice
from
someone like our Attorney in Quito. She
is bi-lingual which
helps greatly if you are not fluent in Spanish.
Living
in Ecuador is wonderful and
as a resident we have many benefits. For instance we receive
considerable
discounts to National Parks and also when we visit the Galapagos
Islands.
The only requirement in obtaining a residency visa is that
you live in
Ecuador for 9 months of the first two years. The other 3
months of the
year you can travel abroad. Not a hard task we feel.
We
still have so much of this
beautiful country to see and we never have a dull moment.
I
have also been asked what the
charges are of an Attorney. As at July 2009 the price was
$350
(USD) per person government fees and $800 (USD) per
person legal
fees.
Our
Attorney is located in Quito. To contact Gabriela please fill
out the form at the end of the page.
