Ecuador Laws and Visa Information

Ecuador opens its arms to expats like us and has a very favourable law system which provides protection and flexibility for visitors and also for the new residents and locals.

Real Estate laws are very reasonable for foreigners and you can own title to real property and the Ecuador laws provide equal protection for foreigners and citizens.

Resident visas are obtainable as a foreign investor or retiree when purchasing a property.  This is generally a straightforward procedure which involves several different steps.  If you are thinking of making Ecuador your second home you may like to bear in mind that the resident visa does require that you spend 9 months of each year for the first two years in Ecuador.

If you come in on a tourist Visa you will be issued with a 90 day maximum but you can apply for a 90 day extension once the first 90 days is due to expire.

There are six different categories of resident visas and if you wish to stay longer than 6 months and you are a student, missionary or working you can apply for a non-resident visa.

It is probably best if you are considering any of the above to consult with an English speaking Ecuadorian Attorney who will help you and explain or the laws required to be adhered to. CLICK HERE to read more
